Leona Louise Lewis - songwriter and singer, who won famous TV show "The X Factor". She was born in England on April 3 1985. "A moment like this", her first single, that was released in December 2006, broke a record when it was downloaded 50 000 times within 30 minutes. And her first album, called "Spirit", was the fastest selling debut album ever in Great Britain and in Ireland. She was born in the London district of Islington in the family of a social worker Marie Lewis and a youth worker Aural Josiah. Lewis has two brothers - elder Bradley and younger Kyle. They spent their childhood in Highbury and they went to school at Ambler Primary School. She was always interested in music and at the age of 5 she entered the Sylvia Young Theatre School. When Lewis was 12, she wrote her first song, and at the age of 13 she won the Lady D talent show. She also took part and won the Yates's Wannabe Talent Contest in 2004. When she left school, she worked in Head & Short Chiropodists and in Stoke Newington High Street as a receptionist. She recorded her demo album "Twilight" but it was n't released. At the age of 15 Lewis recorded a version of Minnie Riperton's "Lovin' You" with music producer Marley J. Wills, after which Lewis and Wills were invited to the US by Sony. But then her career was going nowhere, until her boyfriend suggested to take part in "The X Factor". So in 2006 she entered the show, singing "Over the Rainbow". After a long struggling On 16 December 2006 she won "The X Factor" and got 1 million pound recording contract. Simon Cowell was the one who mentered her. All judges liked her vice very much - Louis Walsh, Sharon Osbourne and Simon Cowell. They highly praised her ide vocal range. But she was criticised in lack of star quality. On 20 December 2006 her single "A Moment like This" was released, and was available for downloading from midnight on 17 December. The single was chosen as the UK Christmas number-one single after it was sold in 571,000 copies. And only in Ireland it was sold in the amount of 1 000 000 copies. In February 2007 she signed a $10 million contract with a founder of Arista Records, Clive Davis. On 2 June 2007, Lewis performed at a special This Is Your Life for Simon Cowell, singing "Somewhere", from West Side Story, with Il Divo. On 24 September 2007, Lewis performed a special album party at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Knightsbridge, where she performed four tracks from the album entitled "Spirit". When the album was released in the Republic of Ireland, it became the fastest selling debut album ever (in Ireland). It also took first places in Australian, Austrian and German charts. On 18 March the album will be released in the United States of America. While recording "Spirit" she worked with such producers as Dallas Austin, Max Martin, Novel,Salaam Remi, Walter Afanasieff , Kara DioGuardi and Stargate . Her second single, called "Bleeding Love", was produced by Ryan Tedder and was released on 22 October 2007 in the United Kingdom. 66 thousand copies were sold on the first day of release. Now she lives in Hackey with her boyfriend Lou Al-Chamaa. They have known each other since the age of 9. They have a rented flat together in Nirth London as well. They are going to marry soon. Lewis also like to play the piano and guitar, as well as dancing. She is a vegetarian and she says in the future she would like to promote a line of non-leather bags and shoes
